Τέλος πάντων, επαναλαμβάνω: αν δείτε τη νέα ταινία Power Rangers χωρίς να έχετε επαφή με το franchise, θα νομίζετε ότι βλέπετε Tommy Wiseau με υπερήρωες, κολάν και εξωγήινους.
Βέβαια, ακόμα κι αν έχετε δει παλιά Power Rangers… η νέα ταινία είναι ακριβώς αυτό: κακογραμμένοι διάλογοι, άγαρμπα χορογραφημένες μάχες, ήρωες με παράξενες στολές και ακόμα πιο αλλόκοτοι εξωγήινοι κακοί.
Νοσταλγία για το παρελθόν, στη νέα ταινία Power Rangers
Η νέα ταινία έχει κάποια καλά στοιχεία, κυρίως όσον αφορά στο κομμάτι της νοσταλγίας. Βρίσκει τρόπους να αντιμετωπίσει το γεγονός ότι δεν παίζουν όλοι οι ηθοποιοί που ενσάρκωσαν τους Power Rangers στην παλιά σειρά, ενώ αποτίνει συγκινητικό φόρο τιμής στα μέλη της ομάδας των οποίων οι ηθοποιοί έχουν φύγει από τη ζωή.

Όμως, πέρα από αυτά τα νοσταλγικά κομμάτια… μην περιμένετε πολλά. Τα οπτικά εφέ είναι καλύτερα από εκείνα της σειράς που βλέπαμε τη δεκαετία του 1990, αλλά θυμίζουν ερασιτεχνική ταινία φαντασίας. Οι διάλογοι δεν πείθουν ποτέ και είναι κάπως έτσι:
-Ακόμα το ‘χεις!
-Ποτέ δεν το έχασα!
-Οι πολίτες είναι ασφαλείς!
-Ώρα να την κάνουμε!
-Πάμε, στην επόμενη μάχη!
Οι ηθοποιοί… ερμηνεύουν τους χαρακτήρες με τρόπο που ενισχύει τη νοσταλγία… αλλά αν τους δούμε με ματιά εκτός της αγάπης για το φραντσάιζ οι ερμηνείες δεν είναι ικανοποιητικές. Οι σκηνές είναι cringey, δεν έχει γίνει καμία προσπάθεια εκσυγχρονισμού, η μουσική μοιάζει, με τη σειρά της, με κάτι που θα ακούγαμε σε ταινίες όπως το The Room (εκτός από το εξαιρετικό main theme).
Οι ατάκες φεύγουν από τα στόματα των ηρώων με ρυθμό πολυβόλου (και είναι γεμάτες με cringe, επίσης, τύπου «Zack’s back… in black!»).
Δεν υπάρχει wordlbuilding ούτε για δείγμα, δεν γίνεται καν προσπάθεια να χτιστεί ένα υπόβαθρο, και τελικά μοιάζει σαν να υπάρχουν ΜΟΝΟ οι Power Rangers και τα παράξενα τέρατα (διαστημικός Μινώταυρος, ρομποτική Rita Repulsa), σε άδειες τοποθεσίες, για να παλεύουν μεταξύ τους αιώνια. Η ταινία μοιάζει με ένα παράξενο όνειρο, ενός παιδιού που μεγάλωσε με τη σειρά τα πρωινά στην τηλεόραση, αλλά πλέον θυμάται μόνο τα βασικά στοιχεία και προσπαθεί με αυτά να συνθέσει κάτι που βγάζει νόημα.
Οι μάχες θυμίζουν σε στιλ και στήσιμο εκείνες της παλιάς σειράς, με τούμπες στον αέρα και εναλλαγές της κάμερας (ΟΚ, εδώ τα κόλπα αυτά γίνονται καλύτερα απ’ ό,τι σε παλιότερες εκδοχές), οι αντίπαλοι μοιάζουν με θαμώνες σε αποκριάτικο πάρτι, η Rita Repulsa «θέλει να κατακτήσει τον γαλαξία». Καταλαβαίνετε, λοιπόν, ότι δεν πρόκειται για μια ταινία που ψάχνει νέο κοινό, δεν μιλάμε για ένα reboot με νέες ιδέες για το μέλλον του franchise.
- Ναι ή όχι: Αν θέλετε να περάσετε 55 γεμάτα νοσταλγία λεπτά, αν μεγαλώσατε με τους Power Rangers, τότε ναι, αλλά έχοντας περιορισμένες απαιτήσεις. Θα χαμογελάσετε, θα συγκινηθείτε ενδεχομένως (εξαρτάται από τον βαθμό αγάπης για το franchise), αλλά μην περιμένετε πολλά.
